Independent Projects

This course offers students the opportunity to develop projects in a variety of subject areas. Students who excel in a specific area may use this opportunity to do advanced work in a field of their choice. Student and teacher will meet at the start of the class to discuss the selection of a project, devise a work schedule, and reach agreement on mutual expectations. Students must be self-motivated and able to conduct research independently. Weekly progress toward the agreed-upon task must be shown. The project must be research-oriented and meet the guidelines of a competition. Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science and History Day are two examples of the guidelines the projects must meet. A final presentation must be given to the teacher.

On the next page is the schedule agreed upon by both student and teacher. Weekly progress must be shown, but at certain points, a substantial portion of the work must be completed. The dates indicated below are one week prior to the actual dates on the school calendar in order to allow time for grading as well as making any needed corrections.
