Greek Magazines

 

Your job is to create a magazine about either Sparta or Athens.  You need to choose one and let your teacher know which one you will be researching.  Remember, you need to include information not covered in class or available in the textbook. This is a research project. With the information you gather, you need to do several things.  Follow the rubric below to guide the creation of your magazine.

 

1.     The magazine has a title, prominently displayed on the front cover.

2.     The front and back covers are interesting, colorful and neatly produced.

3.     There is a table of contents on the page inside the front cover.

4.     An article describes either the politics of the city-state or a war in which it was involved.  This should not be a creative writing piece but a fact-filled piece of journalism.

5.     An article describes some aspects of daily life in the city-state.  This article should be a creative writing piece but, as always, must be based on reality.

6.     There should be a minimum of 2 advertisements for new products or services.  Again, these should be creative but fit the time period and place.

Remember for your presentations try to present your magazines in a creative way.  Perhaps you can use the opaque projector so that all can see it.  Also, remember that you need to meet with your partner prior to your presentation in order to PRACTICE.

 

1.        The presentation was well-organized and easy to follow.  It was obvious the students had worked together on the preparation and had rehearsed the presentation so it was a true team effort.

The grade will be divided in half. 

 

Bonus Points:  Students can earn bonus points by using costumes, props, etc and presenting in a creative way (staging effects, puppet show, etc.)
