Credit: 1.00
Prerequisite: Spanish 1,2
Description: Students of Level 3 Spanish advance in the target language by listening, speaking, reading and writing now combining and recombining learned components of the communication patterns and culture. Building on the second level they now simply initiate, minimally sustain and close basic communicative tasks, asking and answering questions. They maintain face-to-face conversation, introduce themselves, order meals, ask directions, make purchases in the vocabulary needed for elementary needs. Writing and editing simple essays, sometimes using computers, they peer edit and develop reading skills while working together effectively with others. Students become more self-directed and adept at real life problem solving related to the target culture while evaluating, comparing and contrasting. Response to the arts and other disciplines encourages creative expression while assessment in class work, some homework and traditional exams, research and reports, role playing and varied culture driven integrative products and productions will suggest achievement of the intermediate low proficiency on the ACTFL scale. Some nationally related achievement and pro-achievement examinations of the AATF, AATG or AATSP may be offered in addition to performance assessments.
