Frequently Asked Questions about CASS-

1.What are we trying to do?

Creating a Safe Social Climate is a multifaceted program for school districts designed to change the social culture within a school community so girls and boys can feel emotionally safe with their peers. It deals with all forms of peer aggression, but mostly with the larger issue of how peers treat each other.

2.What do teachers have to do?

Teachers play a pivotal role in their daily interactions with students. Teachers need the tools to recognize covert aggression in the classroom and be instrumental in infusing new norms into the classroom.

3. Isn’t this just normal adolescent development?

Yes and no, but mostly no. We can all expect to lose a friend and not be included whenever and wherever we want. It is normal to experience conflict with friends, but it is NOT normal to be victimized by bullies, to be mean or to be intentionally hurtful.
