What is going on in French Revolution

In this unit we will be looking at the causes and outcomes of the French Revolution in Europe. In addition there are some student worksheets which are password protected and are intended for the use of our students only. There will be an number of assessments for this unit some students will be doing a portfolio presentation. The class will also be responsible for a writing assignment, as well as the traditional reading assigments, quizzes and the test. The standards that will be assessed in this unit are: 5.2.12, 6.2.12,6.3.12A/D, 6.4.12, 7.3.12, 7.4.12, 8.1.12. 8.4.12.

Day 1	Theme: Seeds of Revolution Look at Pictures on page 421, 429, and 479. Make connections (8.4.12C) Review Guided Reading and Review page 20 (8.4.12 D) Using Flash, Introduce Social Classes; look at Diagram to see land distribution (p. 481) and population comparison, draw conclusions Show picture of Bastille and explain the layout and refute Idea of the crowd storming (de Launay) Discuss History through Literature p41 “Tale of Two Cities” (8.4.12B) Assign: Read pages ch 19 sec 2
Day 2	Assigned each row one of the statements from GRR. They must create an “A” relationship statement fully explaining the words GRR sec 2 . (8.4.12C) Using Flash and page 485 and class notes have students Compare and contrast the Declaration of Independence and Declaration of Rights of Man, how does each embody enlightenment ideals? Day 4	Flash Ends Review lists from last night and create a master list of events that led to Nap. Downfall (8.4.12A) Show map of Napoleons Russian Campaign, why was he defeated in Russia? (8.1.12; 8.4.12A/D) Show pic of Napoleon falling Discuss the importance of the Congress of Vienna (use Chart) copy (5.3.12B; 8.1.12) Assign: Read Ch 21 sec 1 and for Day 6 do Maps page 32 and 33 (No 5 themes for Prussia/Austria)
Day 5	Work in Groups of three Comparing and Contrasting the 3 political camps in Europe, and how each led to unrest in Europe and the world (use handout as a guide) Discuss each group
Day 6	Collect maps Review how the Enlightenment caused American/French revolutions and worldwide (8.4.12C) Pass out Revolutions worksheet – work in groups of two (8.4.12D) Review worksheet
Day 7	Portfolio Presentations then reviewed for test (review basketball)
Day 8	Test on French Revolution
