Credit: 1.00
Prerequisite:Pre-Algebra

A student must have a good understanding of numbers, fractions, and decimals to undertake the study of Algebra. The course develops the basic structure of the set of real numbers and properties of multiplication and addition. The distributive property is applied throughout the course. Techniques of equation solving are developed for integral, rational, and irrational numbers. Equations of first and second degree in one variable in system of linear equations are solved. Rules for the operation with polynomials are established including factoring. Factoring is applied to the solutions of equations and to the operations with algebraic functions. Relations and fuctions are discussed, including their graphs. Properties of the straight and its standard equation are established. Properties of irrational numbers are developed and applied. Algebra established a foudation on which all higher math courses may build. Any student whose post high school plans include college should elect this course. Students evalution is based on tests, quizzes, classwork, group, activities, and a portfolio will be kept on each student.
