Mrs. Reiland

Info

Mrs. Reiland has taught Special Education for 20 years. She teaches a learning support class. It includes Adapted English, Math, and Science.

Mrs. Reiland attended Harrisburg Community College for 2 years, Lock Haven for 2 years, and Bloomsburg as her graduate school. The Special Education Major at Loch Haven required an elementary block, as well as a Special Ed. block. Her degree is titled "Mental and/or Physically Handicapped." She could teach children in kindergarten through grade 12. She prefers teaching at the high school level.

Mrs. Reiland is the department chairperson of Special Education here at Selinsgrove. When she started in 1983, the student schedules were not part of the master schedule. The Learning Support(L.S.) teachers had to do all the student schedules. Hardly any student was mainstreamed in the academics. There were no hard-covered textbooks; all work was done using packets.

This school year she averages about nine students per class. For the second semester she will offer a class called "Classroom Skills". This class will be similar to Classroom Success, taught by Mr. Hess. Classroom Skills will enable the students to receive mainstream support in school as they complete assignments and prepare for tests in their regular classes. Students will also be shown study skills and organization techniques.
