PolicyWhy Assign Homework?
The homework given fits one of these five categories:
- Silent Reading- Students should try to read for at least 15 minutes a day.
- Skills Practice - This is an extension of work that has been introduced in class. This homework is an individualized drill activity designed to help strengthen the child's weak areas.
- Research - This is work which involves the use of reference materials. It is often given on an extended time basis.
- Unfinished Work - This is work that is not completed in class and is within the student's capability to finish at home.
- Review - Students should spend some time at home studying and preparing for tests.
- Projects - Students will be given an adequate amount of time to prepare for a project and details will be sent home with the student.
Homework When Student Misses School If your child is ill, but able to do homework I will be happy to make assignments that do not require teacher instruction. Please call the school in advance. The work can then be easily picked up in our school's office.
Parent's Role:
- You may check over your child's work.
- You may give minimum instruction.
- Please encourage and supervise.
- Sign required tests and return.
- Sign the blue form inside the Weekly Work Folder, which is sent home at the end of the week. Please return the folder, along with the blue form signed and attached papers.
- Notify me if your child is having difficulties with the assignments.
Teacher's Role:
- I will assign, check, and return homework.
- I will inform parents if their child does not have assignments completed on time.
- I will be available at most recesses to give extra help.
- I will be available to help a student in the morning before school by prior arrangement.
- Parents may reach me at school at 372-2270.
Child's Role:
- Be responsible to write down all assignments in agenda book.
- Be responsible to take home materials neccessary to complete assignments.
- Work as hard as he/she can on homework assignments.
- Be responsible to make sure he/she understands assignments before leaving school.
- Be responsible for returning assignments to the teacher when due.
