I know for each student to successful in my class... there needs to be great teamwork between home and Room 215. Therefore, I am available almost any time after school hours for a phone call or conference if any parent has a question or they feel the need to meet.
In addition and perhaps more importantly for staying "on top of things", from my classroom we have a weekly packet folder.
Pictured here... the packet consists of a laminated file folder where all the student's work that has been graded for the week is sent home. All papers are stapled together with a student evaluation form. On the form there are comments for listing or checking in various categories. These include late or missing assignments, class participation, and a variety of behavioral issues. There is also lots of space to write in comments or questions. These are sent home each Friday. Parents may keep the papers and send back the signed form with their student on Monday. The Friday packet is also a great way to send home other important news from SAIS.
For the second, third, and last marking period I send home a mid-quarter progress report. The grading program that I use provides a copy with the student's grades and also class average in each subject. Watch for this. It gets signed and returned.
