Writing Projects

Each student has a writing portfolio that accompanies them through the grades and holds samples of their writing at each grade level. Writing projects for fourth grade  include but are not limited to four different prompts. These include one Narrative, an Informational, and a Persuasive prompt. I will also put one of the student's book reports and a sample of their creative writing into their portfolios. All writing goes through the writing process. This includes time for drafting, revising, editing, and making a final copy of each work. There are also opportunities for the students to sharpen their touch typing and word processing skills during some of these projects.

My students actually do 2 biographies. We do a neat bio buddy project with Mrs. Bordner's class at the beginning of the school year. We pair up the students and give them a chance to get to know each other better. They gather a lot of info by conducting a structured interview. They then use the writing process and write their bios. This year students prepared final copies in our computer lab using our new word processing program with some help from Mrs. O'Malley.

(Here are 2 new "buddies" who did a super job holding their final copies)

Later in the year they will do a biography on a famous Pennsylvanian. This is a research project and requires adding a bibliography to their work. Mrs. Williamson is always a huge help to our students at this time.
