Selinsgrove Area Intermediate School

Mrs. Drzewiecki

Fourth Grade

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! Our classroom consists of 22 enthusiastic learners. I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach your child. We will be learning many new things, making new friends, and growing in many different and wonderful ways. We want you to know what is happening in our classroom too!

I am pleased to be working with Miss Kim Edwards, our student teacher from Susquehanna University. She will be here until December. You can e-mail her at edwardsk@susqu.edu

Following is a list of our class rules, our weekly specials, my homework policy, and some other tidbits for your information. Please remember that it is my responsibility as your child's teacher to provide the best possible education that I can. If there is ever any information about your child that I should know or if you have questions or comments for me, please do not hesitate to contact me
.

Our Specials:
Day 1: Chorus
Day 2: Phys. Ed
Day 3: Music
Day 4: Phys. Ed
Day 5: Art
Day 6: Music

We will also be having computer lab (Mrs. O'Malley) to refresh our keyboarding skills and learn word processing. Additional classes will be scheduled throughout the year. Library Science classes will be scheduled by Mrs. Williamson (the Librarian) and me. We can also use the library ANY day for exchanging books. Mrs. Morgan (our Guidance Counselor) will be scheduling classes in our classroom too!!

Lunch will be at 11:55 until 12:25 and the students will have lunch recess from 12:25-12:45. There will be a morning recess from 10:00 until 10:15.

I am allowing the students in my class to bring in a simple, non-messy snack (pretzels, crackers, granola bar, apple, etc.) and a water bottle for their desk. Please, no candy, juice, milk or anything messy. If you would like to send something in for the entire class, that's always welcome!

Homework:
Homework is intended to provide reinforcement of concepts taught in class. It is a very important activity that helps to assure success and strengthen skills. I do keep track of whether or not homework is completed. Your child will bring home a homework assignment book each night. An adult will need to sign the homework book when the homework is completed. The amount of time typically spent on homework each night should be about 20-30 minutes.
Missed homework assignments will result in a loss of free time given at the end of the week.

STUDY ISLAND - Students can work on their 3rd grade concepts at home. We will begin the Fourth Grade skills after the holidays!!

Friday Folder:
Every Friday, your child will bring home a Friday folder. The Friday folder is my way of keeping you informed of your child's progress each week. The folder will have his/her papers in it from the week. If there was a missing assignment, a brightly colored slip will be attached and you will need to sign it.
A weekly newsletter will be included in this folder, as well as notices for tests and other important information. The Friday folder and any papers that need to be signed and returned should be returned on the next school day.

Classroom Rules:
1. Listen to the directions the first time they are given.
2. Keep hands and feet to yourself at all times. (objects too!!)
3. Respect people and their property.
4. Be polite and helpful to teachers and classmates.
5. Raise your hand to speak.
