Here at the Intermediate School we have a unique community outreach program called, "Adopt -A- Classroom". Each of our 30 regular classrooms have been "adopted" by an area business. The local radio station, WYLG 98.3 FM and 1040 AM, Big Country Radio has adopted our class. Once a month radio personality Dawn Marie visits our classroom and we also take a field trip to the radio station in October. At the radio station the students have the opportunity to visit with other radio personalities and see first hand how a radio station operates. During monthly visits Dawn Marie does a variety of activities with our class. She begins by sharing with the students about her job, her education, and how important the skills taught in school are for her to do her job well. Sometimes when she visits she will help the students with their skill work or read and share a book with them. One special activity the students really enjoy is creating and writing a radio commercial or community service announcement. After it has been produced, Dawn Marie records the students and plays the commercial or announcement on the air. Each student then receives their own tape of the class's air time. A special treat is when the Wiggle Binny pays a visit too!
