Meet Mrs. Gasteiger

Hello! I'm Mrs. Gasteiger. I'm looking forward to my third year teaching at Selinsgrove Intermediate School. Fifth grade is an exciting year and lots of learning goes on. I team teach with Mr. Showers. I teach the math and science parts of the curriculum, and Mr. Showers teaches the language arts and social studies portions.
I came to be teaching here in Selinsgrove through a non-traditional path. I grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, where the winters were much worse then those here in central PA. I went to college at Brown University in Rhode Island and graduated with a ScB in Psychology way back in 1984. I then moved to Boston and joined the very exciting high-technology boom. I worked for a leading software company for many years.
My husband and I then decided to leave the city and chose to move to the beautiful central Susquehanna Valley. During this time I took a break from paying work to spend time at home with our children. Then I bought a small store in Lewisburg and ran it for a couple of years. After I closed that business, I went to work as an emergency substitute teacher in the Milton and Mifflinburg school districts. Ta Da--I loved teaching!
No longer satisfied to be a substitute, I went back to college. I completed Susquehanna University's Teacher Intern program and got certified. Before coming to Selinsgrove, I taught 3rd Grade at Mifflinburg Elementary School for one year. School is so much fun that I am now working on a Master's degree at Bloomsburg University.
I live in Lewisburg with my husband and my three children, who keep me busy with my second career as their chauffer.
