Selinsgrove Area Intermediate School PTSO Minutes
September 9, 2008
I. The meeting was called to order by our PTSO President, Jodi Cope, at 7:01 PM.
Officers present were: Jodi Cope, Andrea Burda, Reesa Watto and Liz Mertz
II. Treasurer’s Report: Reesa presented the current balance in the PTSO accounts. The Money Market balance is $35, 561.78 and the Checking account is $3, 833.25. There was discussion centered around the 2008 - 2009 budget for the year with emphasis on any changes highlighted. Further discussion centered around specific line items that increased and the reasons why. A budget amendment was requested in the Related Arts Program for the Mane Event due to higher expenses incurred by the presenters. Reesa stated that the changes and revisions in the budget from last year will still balance with an anticipated surplus to end the year.
III. Approval of 2008/2009: The revision was approved and the 08-09 Budget was passed as amended.
IV. Updates from Mr. Heintzelman:
Mr. Heintzelman reminded us that the Key Club will be providing highschool students to supervise children in the gym area during the PTSO meetings. So, please attend and bring your kids along for some play time.
Mr. Heintzelman introduced and recognized the two teachers in attendance, Mrs. Reibsame from 4th grade and Miss Eyster from 5th. He also introduced Miss Whitney Rozelle, our AmeriCorp volunteer and praised her for all the help she will provide throughout the school year.
He discussed the first couple of days of the new school year and the challenges they presented with the addition of the second graders. Emphasized was the new routine the second graders had to become accustomed to in the lunch room. Mr. Heintzelman praised the 5th graders for being so respectful and wonderfully patient as they were delayed in entering the cafeteria for the first couple of days. The lunchroom routine is now understood and is running smoothly.
Mr. Heintzelman stated there are still challenges in the morning drop-off and dismissal due to the increase in traffic. He encouraged all to follow the traffic pattern distributed at Orientation. Also, it is highly recommended that car pooling be considered since it would certainly decrease the number of cars trying to exit.
Some dates to keep in mind:
Sept. 15th Supreme Court Justice Alito will be visiting Susquehanna University. More details should be forthcoming.
Sept 19th - The Mane Event will be presented for the third graders. Also, on this date, the 4th graders will be singing the National Anthem at the beginning of the home football game against Danville.
Everyone should have received the new Seals Newsletter by now. This will be published monthly and will not only include interesting school news, but will also provide information on what community program brochures or forms are available in the office for parents to pick up.
After the updates, Mr Heintzelman presented the PSSA results and data from the 2007-2008 school year.
V. Upcoming Events/Projects:
Wolfgang Candy Sale - our only fund raiser of the year is underway. Please work hard on your sales. The profit is used to do extra things for the students such as field trips and presentations. Also, the profit from the sale provides funds to each teacher so that they can buy supplies needed to supplement their curriculum.
Fall Book Fair - This year’s theme is Safari and the dates for the Book Fair are Oct. 14, 15, 16 and 17th. The 14th begins with a teacher preview. 4th grade will attend on the 15th, followed by the 3rd graders on the 16th and 5th will have the 17th. Each second grade class will attend on one of the above dates. Notice will be sent home so that the second grade parents know when their child’s class will attend. It was requested and approved that the second grade class share a 1/4 of the profits from the book sale.
Fall Festival - The Festival will occur on October 31st. There will be a Native American presentation, “Fall themed” games, and a pumpkin patch. Each child will have the opportunity to choose and decorate their pumpkin. Additionally, each class will organize their own classroom party.
VI. With no additional discussion or suggestions presented, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15.
