I. The meeting was called to order by the PTSO president at 7:00 p.m.
Officers present: Beth Faunce, president; Liz Mertz, recording secretary; Kelly Miller, corresponding secretary and Jodi Cope, treasurer.
II. Treasurer’s Report
The current account balances are as follows: Checking: $35,784.95 and Money Market: $8,751.83
III. The 2009-2010 budget was presented for approval. There were no changes from last year’s budget since expenses are expected to be much the same. The budget was reviewed and approved as presented.
IV. Updates from Mr. Heintzelman / PSSA Information
Mr. Heintzelman commented on the controversy surrounding President Obama’s speech regarding the importance of education. Although the Intermediate school students did not watch the speech during class time, it was taped, and may be available for view at a future date.
Mr. Heintzelman reported that there have been two confirmed Swine Flu cases in the high school. (However, a day after the meeting Mr. Heintzelman was told that those cases were only suspected not confirmed)
On Monday, September 14, there will be an Instrumental Orientation for fifth grade.
On September 15 and 23, the third grade will take the first of three DIBELS tests.
On Friday, September 18, the fourth and fifth grade will sing the National Anthem at the football game. More detailed information will be sent home.
The Open House will be held on September 24 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
Please take note that on the school calendar there is a misprint regarding a snow make-up day. The date is April 1, not April 2, 2010.
Mr. Heintzelman presented a detailed explanation of the PSSA along with the students’ testing results from last school year.
Mr. Heintzelman announced that the school’s website has a link for parents to check the balance of their children’s lunch account. It also provides a method for blocking certain purchases such as super lunches. The PTSO has a link, as well.
V. Upcoming Events
A. The Wolfgang candy sale will begin with a kick off presentation on September 18.
B. Fall picture day is scheduled for September 11.
C. The Fall Book Fair is scheduled for October 14, 15 and 16. Family Night will be October 19 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
D. The Fall Festival will be held on October 30. Parents that indicated they could volunteer to help will be contacted.
VI. Discussions / Suggestions
The Giant A+ Program was explained and parents were provided the opportunity to sign up after the PTSO meeting. Also, Giant and Weis gift cards will be sold to raise money for fifth grade camp. More information is forthcoming.
Open House is scheduled for September 24 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
October 13 at 7:00 p.m. is the next PTSO meeting in the LGI.
