Course Description:
The goal of this course is to prepare pre-service teachers to
utilize technology in their classrooms in such a way as to promote
student learning. This course will emphasize the application of
computer software and hardware in the classroom. Participants
will develop a portfolio of computer-generated materials.
Materials:
Participants are asked to have CD-Rs available to save materials.
Course Objectives:
Students will demonstrate skill in using software to manage
instructional needs.
q Students will utilize a word processor.
q Students will utilize multi-media presentation packages.
q Students will demonstrate use of scanners, digital cameras and
graphic packages.
q Students will apply a database.
q Students will utilize spreadsheets.
Students will demonstrate skill and knowledge in the area of
telecommunications.
q Students will demonstrate regard for intellectual rights
associated with electronic media.
q Students will demonstrate the ability to search the Internet
for materials to enrich the classroom curriculum.
q Students will create a web quest that integrates the use of
the Internet.
q Students will demonstrate understanding of distance education
by taking part in online lessons set up by the instructor.
Using models of instructional design, students will evaluate,
select and integrate hardware and courseware with curriculum and
instructional objectives.
q Students will apply instructional design models to instructional
resources
q Students will demonstrate understanding of technology integration
into the classroom by creating a unit plan that integrates some
form of technology within each lesson.
Attendance Policy (Professional Responsibilities)
Due to the interactive nature of this course, all students
are expected to attend all classes and participate actively. At
a minimum, students must attend 7 of the 8 classes and make up
any missed class assignments. Should the student have extenuating
circumstances she/he should contact the instructor as soon as
possible.
