Welcome to 6th Grade!

This page has been created to serve as an introduction to life as a 6th grader at Selinsgrove Area Middle School, S.A.M.S.

All 6th grade students at S.A.M.S. study reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies during Pod (1/2 of the school day). During the remaining portion of the school day students take art, technical education, family and consumer science, Spanish, health, music, guidance, physical education, library, computer science, and Pod directed studies on a rotation schedule in Out of Pod. In this time they may elect to participate in band and/or chorus during Flex period. Flex is a daily period when teachers instruct either maintenance, remediation, or offer enrichment of curriculum skills.
Other academic courses available to students who qualify are:
Title I Math Lab, Targeted math, and Targeted reading.

Sixth grade students also participate in Creating a Safe School (C.A.S.S.) activities. C.A.S.S. is a series of lessons taught by H.S. student mentors, H.S. teacher facilitators, and S.A.M.S. faculty to help S.A.M.S. students identify
and eliminate aggressive behaviors.

Other programs offered to students to aide in academic and social development are: Lettergrade, Student Council, Phoenix Program,  Intramural sports, Guidance groups, etc. Many of these programs are voluntary. Participation may also be
recommended by the team teachers.
