Sixth Grade Mathematics

Sixth grade math focuses on all student instruction being based on the assessment anchors provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students will use the Prentice Hall Mathematics Course 1 textbook, calculators, Study Island, and teacher made materials to help master the state assessment anchors. PSSA materials and Study Island will be used to help remediate 5th grade standards and as test prep for the sixth grade PSSA, that is given in the spring.

Skills students will work on are:  accurate computation and estimation of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions, basic Geometry and formulas, and the application of all 5th grade standards. 5th grade standards will be integrated into the 6th grade curriculum and enhanced by higher level questioning, discussions, and student written explanations. Explanations will be scored using the PA Dept. of Ed. General Mathematics Rubric.
