Students in 8th grade Tech Ed spent the marking period designing CO2 powered race cars in Solidworks, which is a CAD design software. The cars were required to meet numerous constraints for mass and size, as well as a number of very specific aesthetic design criteria. Finished cars were machined on a commercial ShopBot CNC machine, and the students completed the final steps of the manufacturing process by hand. Students this semester were also able to laser engrave a design of their choice onto the cars with the help of our Epilog laser cutter/engraver.
