On Friday, March 5th, 2004, the SELINSGROVE AREA HIGH SCHOOL SYMPHONIC BAND will present its 12th annual "Guest Artist Night" concert. This year's concert will again showcase the talents of our students combined with local and professional musicians. Appearing this year with the band will be George Rabbai, one of the most sought after classical and jazz trumpet soloists in New York City. Mr. Rabbai's first national recognition as a trumpeter came when he joined the Woody Herman Orchestra, touring as a jazz soloist. He currently has been working as a soloist behind vocalist Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, Margeret Whiting, and was featured with Tony Bennett on his recent television special, "Tony Bennett With Love." George is currently on the faculties of Philadelphia's University of the Arts and Rowan University. With the Selinsgrove Band, Mr. Rabbai will be performing Goedecki's Concert Etude, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and John LaBarbara's Tiger Of San Pedro.

The concert will also feature local professional musicians Dale Orris, Jeff Chubb, Beverly Conrad, and Greg Burgess. Mr. Chubb and Mr. Orris have performed on trumpet with many big name artists such as Maynard Ferguson, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Fiddler Beverly Conrad and pianist Greg Burgess are widely known throughout the region and have been the "house band" at Penn's Tavern on Saturday nights for the past 10 years.
One of the most entertaining selections of the evening will most likely be Robert W. Smith's original arrangement, A Nation's Flight, paying a tribute to the 100th anniversary of flight. Among the Selinsgrove High Student soloists featured will be Leonard Rubin, performing the piano solo to George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
The cost for this entertaining evening is $1.00 for students and $4.50 for adults. For more information, contact Mr. Smith at his e-mail or during school hours at 372-2222.
